She and George (his painting further back on my blog) were brother and sister.

Historic Bethabara Moravian Church in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Liked the detail on the church.  I think it was a study of trees and shading, too.

Two friends who went to GT wanted this one.  So, I painted it twice.

Barrier Islands in Southeastern North Carolina

Painted on two panels, this is from a photo that appeared as a two-page spead in Our State magazine.  I believe it was in 2010.

The inspiration for this painting was from a Winslow Homer painting,
Rooms for Tourists

Like the green sepia shadows, and the detail through a couple of the windows.
The Homestead
America's Heartland
Private Collection

I painted this early on, back in 2006 or so.  Liked the detail in the worn paint, and the rusted tin roof.
Uganda
SOLD

Africa

A buddy of mine from work travels here frequently as a volunteer. He couldn't find any paintings there, or here in the US, that really reminded him of the landscape.  So, I did this for him.  And, a lot of other folks who have seen this since, really like it.
Hot Rain
SOLD

Poppies and Thunder in North Carolina

I saw the original of this painting online, some time back last year.  Don't know who the artist was.  I cranked up the contrast, and the downpour in the center.  Of course, there were numerous enhancements to the clouds.

SOLD
Sunrise
Cows in Lewisville, North Carolina

As I worked on this piece, the contrast of the sky got brighter and brighter against the shadows.  So luminous, that I named the painting Sunrise.  Most folks call it "the cow painting."
Baskets

Low Country, South Carolina

The color palette in this painting was really a stretch for me, and why I took it on.  I took the liberty of doing a little editing ("housekeeping"), and added a few shrubs in the sideyard.
Boys in a Pasture
SOLD

Reproduction of Winslow Homer, 1874

Have painted this twice ... to keep, however, both times I ended up selling it.

Nathan's
Coney Island, New York
SOLD

Never been here, but the photo was too enticing. The bright colors and shadows were fun.
Mast General Store

Valle Crucis, North Carolina

If you're from North Carolina, you've likely been to this historic spot in Watauga County.  I decided to leave the contrail in the painting.  Not sure why.  Those thick, gangly wires and their shadows that fall across the storefront fooled me for the better part of a day's work. Where did reality end, and shadow begin?
Salem Christmas
SOLD

Window during Lovefeast in December

Some really nice reflections in the wavy glass, counter the rough-hewn windowsill.
Old Salem
SOLD
Historic Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Painted this mainly because of the strong shadows and depth of color.  There were a lot of bricks to paint, one at a time.
George
NOT FOR SALE
My best friend.

My yellow lab, George, a.k.a. "Pickle", was my best friend for 10 years.  I painted this from a photo I took of him when he as 9.  I am so glad I did. It hangs in my hallway, and I still get to see him everyday.

The Blue Lady

From a photo I found.  Not sure where this is down east, but it was fun to paint.  (I need to take a better photo of the painting.)

Painted from a family photo, looking down 9th Ave. toward Ocean Blvd.
Bodie
On the Outer Banks of North Carolina

Never thought about painting this lighthouse when a storm was brewing.  But, I love the bounce of land color against the clouds.
